High Priestess Training and Community

 goddessschool

Welcome to a journey of the shamanistic powers of the female, the Wisewomen. Wisewomen have existed for thousands of years and still exist throughout the world. They know Mother Earth as the ultimate healer, and have learned to utilize the gifts of of nature. Inside each woman is a being of wisdom, deeply connected to the phases of the moon and the tides of the sea. All we need to do is trust our innate wisdom.

“Part of the ancient vision of the Goddess was as protector of cities and the sustaining fields around them. She was not, in this role, always a matronly and maternal goddess, but was frequently depicted as a lusty, loving, sensual woman. The power she wielded did not make her any less sexually vibrant. Indeed, her power was part of her erotic attraction.”

“The queens and goddesses of myth and legend show us an image of both strength and sensuousness. While today we often equate women’s sexuality with weakness and passivity, our forebears saw such goddesses as Ishtar as especially passionate and sexual because of their power. Ishtar and her sister goddesses are potent images of feminine possibility – a possibility that remains despite the 2,500 years that have passed since she was last worshipped.” (“The Goddess Companion”, Patricia Monaghan)

Shamanism refers to a range of traditional beliefs and practices concerned with communication with the spirit world. The feminine form of the word is not “shamaness” but “shamanka”, however, here we will use the word “Priestess”.

Healing,  gathering and growing herbs and food, keeping communities in balance, presiding over ceremonies and rites of passage, maintaining relations with the dead, teaching, ministering to those in need, communing with nature to learn her secrets ,preserving the wisdom traditions, divining the future, and drumming and dancing with Goddesses, these are feminine shamanic arts.  This what you will learn or remember in our classes here!

Sisters of The Burning Branch, is our part of the “shaman’s tree”, an image found in several cultures as a symbol for mediation.  The tree is seen as a being whose roots belong to the world underneath; its trunk belongs to the middle, human-inhabited world; and its top is related to the upper world.

The curriculum of Sisters of the Burning Branch, is eclectic, borrowed from the teachings of many paths, but rooted in Women’s Spirituality.

Priestess Training takes a year and day to complete, plus 3 months to earn the High Priestess cord. (four levels). We do ask for your commitment when joining. Please do not sign up if you are not committed or able to follow through. There is nothing worse for your self esteem!  We try to nurture here, this defeats that purpose.

At GoddessSchool we use song and chants to raise power, using drums, tambourines or just humming along works too! We celebrate the Mother – the Full Moon – Mother Earth – Mother Nature – she is in us all – we are in her – we are one! We will learn some songs, beat the drums, howl at the Moon! We are ever changing as does the Moon – Feel the Moon – let her fill you up! Join us!

The entire fee for each level is $120 (easy payment plan available), sixteen lessons in each level, except the last. Tuition covers lessons,  assignments and instructor feedback. In addition, students may download guided meditation exercises and be eligible for face to face Sabbats, Esbats and retreats with the Sisterhood.

Plant a Tree Spell
Spell Date: Saturday, April 9, 2016

Now is a good time to plant a tree, and garden centers offer a big selection at this time of year. But why not put some magical effort into it? That will create a bond between you and the tree, and make it yours. After you select a planting site, think about the kind of tree you want. Do you want a large shade tree, a fruit tree, or a small ornamental? After you decide, say words of power that you’ll find the perfect tree for you. Once you get the tree home, water it well while still in the container or burlap; this shows the tree you care. After planting, press a penny into the soil as a sign of thanks. Then sprinkle a bit of your hair around the trunk as you say:

“With this coin and hair, we have a special bond that we’ll always share.”

Apple Creativity Spell
Spell Date: Friday, April 8, 2016

For this spell, you’ll need a fresh apple, a cutting board, and a knife. Hold the apple in your palms and close your eyes. Think of a project you want to do that requires creativity. See yourself inspired and working on the project with creativity flowing freely. See the momentum of your creativity growing, as each new step you take fuels the step to come. See the project being completed joyfully and to great success. Feel the power of your vision flow through your palms and into the apple. Open your eyes.
Cut the apple in half across the middle so that you can see the seeds in their star pattern. Eat the apple slowly, thoroughly chewing and swallowing each bite before beginning the next. As you eat the apple, each bite strengthens your drive and creativity.
As you finish eating the apple, say:

“As this apple fuels my body, creativity fuels my mind.”

Repeat the spell whenever you need a creative boost.

Black Mirrors
Spell Date: Thursday, April 7, 2016

During the time of the new moon, many things remain hidden from our view. This is a great time to utilize scrying to see what normally cannot be seen. You will want to be in an area that is free from distractions. Your altar area would be ideal. Place a black mirror in the center of your altar, with candles and incense as far to the sides as possible to prevent their images from being reflected in the mirror. Now close your eyes and center your being. When you’re ready, open your eyes and gaze into the mirror.

Chant:

“What is hidden can now be seen.
Reveal to me what I may glean.”

Write down any images made clear to you during this time, as their importance may not be immediately clear.

Unicorn Altar
Spell Date: Wednesday, April 6, 2016

It’s Tartan Day, a day to celebrate Scottish heritage. Here’s a little heritage to celebrate: Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn. Unicorns are associated with purity, protection, beauty, elegance, subtlety, magic, intuition, shapeshifting, and connection with the Otherworld.
Today, build a unicorn altar, with the intention to align with one or more of these qualities. Keep it simple or get elaborate. You might paint, draw, print out, or find a unicorn image, and then add symbols as desired. For example, you could choose a feather for subtlety and/or intuition, and a white quartz or lepidolite for protection and/or purity. Light a white candle and diffuse a light floral scent (via oil or incense) such as lavender or lilac. Envision a wise and beautiful unicorn as a wordless invocation, and inwardly align yourself with his or her vast power and wisdom.

Metaphysical Properties of Citrine, The Merchant Stone

Properties: Considered the merchant stone, citrine is very versatile and is used for mental and emotional clarity, problem solving, memory issues, will power, optimism, confidence and self-discipline. It reduces anxiety, fear and depression. Citrine is one of two crystals which never have to be cleansed of negative energy. An energizing and highly beneficial crystal, citrine absorbs, transmutes, grounds and dissolves negative energy, which makes it a very protective stone. Citrine crystals are invigorating and positive. They can surround and fill anyone with its brilliant color, energizing every aspect of life. Increases motivation and Persons involved with education or business will especially benefit. Can guide you to harness and utilize your creative energy. Helps us analyze events and steer them in a positive direction. Develops inner calm and security, and makes us less sensitive and more open to constructive criticism. Can dispel negative feelings and help us to accept the flow of events. This stone is great with help in achieving goals. Because of its matrix of iron and quartz, it is most effective on the Sacral/Sexual/Navel Chakra, the Solar plexus Chakra and Crown Chakra. The grounding abilities of citrine help to alleviate anxiety, as the more orange encourages creative flow and sexual arousal, where the more yellow citrine has a soothing affect on the digestive system. Citrine energizes every level of the aura, cleansing and balancing the subtle bodies as it aligns it with the physical body. Citrine is the stone of abundance. It teaches us the lessons of achieving wealth and prosperity. Not just on a monetary level, but in all aspects of our lives. Citrine is considered one of THE best stone when selling a home, property or business.

Folk Remedies: Eases digestion, stomach tension, food disorders, allergies. Detoxification: Spleen, kidneys, liver, urinary system, intestines. Citrine promotes physical activity, which in turn improves digestion and helps the cleansing organs. May also work as a detoxifier for the blood. Ancient cultures have used citrine for protection against evil spirits and in particular, against snake bites. Citrine has been used to reverse degenerative diseases and in treating chronic fatigue. It is considered the eliminator as it is used on the abdomen for eliminating constipation. It is also a wonderful stone used as an elixir for menstrual disorders, PMS and symptoms from menopause.

Feng Shui: This joyful stone is used specifically in the Southeast direction of your home for wealth/prosperity. It can also be used in the Center area for spiritual growth and guidance. In the West direction for creativity and North for personal journeys.

Crystal Cleansing: method 1 – 8

History: Citrine (SiO2) gets its unique orange to yellow color from a matrix of ferric iron and quartz. Its color is usually a pale golden yellow, but can be found in darker shades as well, although some literature considers the darkest crystals to be Smoky Quartz. The Celtic people of Scotland call the dark Citrine crystals Morion and Cairngorm. Citrine was used in Rome as engraved figurines given as gifts. Citrine has been given other names in other cultures including the merchant stone or the golden stone of wealth. Dark citrine has been call ox blood. Natural citrine tends to be a very pale yellow. Much of the citrine on the market today is “created” by adding heat to a poor quality of amethyst, turning it orange. When citrine forms naturally with amethyst, it is called Ametrine.

Five Ways to Communicate With Your Guides

by Martine Jeanne Craughley

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head? Sometimes it’s something you heard on the way to work, or sometimes it seems to arrive from nowhere. Ever wonder where it came from? It may just be your spirit guide (perhaps a grandparent or friend who has passed on) communicating with you.

They may want to alert you to something or get you to acknowledge something you may be ignoring. Many of us feel like the spirit world is far from us, rarely accessible in dreams and never accessible during waking life except through psychics. Yet this couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone was born with a spirit guide to help them grow into their potential.
Ordinary life decisions like choosing a job that pays the bills rather than following your dreams, or marrying someone for convenience, money or childbearing rather than for love, choosing to stay in your safe hometown rather than follow your desires to live in a new city… any one of these can dampen the connection between your spiritual guides and conscious mind. Try the following steps to stay connected to your guides:

Be honest
How do you begin to open those channels? First, if you have taken steps in your life that have dulled you, simply acknowledge the truth of it. The spirit lives in truth, and by speaking the truth to yourself, you’ve opened the door to hearing your guide again.

Tune in
Another thing to recognize is that your guide may have encouraged you in the past to do things that you thought were risky – perhaps to follow your dreams into the unknown. This may have made you unwittingly tune that information out. Tune back in by accepting that you can hear your guide and still make your own decisions, even deciding to stay stuck, if that suits you. Again, it’s being honest with yourself that opens the conduit to deeper conscience and guidance.

No coincidences
As you begin to open those psychic doors, pay attention to “random” coincidences. Start looking for the underlying meaning behind the song stuck in your head, or in that vivid dream – spend time reflecting on what issue it might have brought to light. Sometimes the guidance is unmistakable if the song is, “These Boots Are Made for Walkin” and sometimes it will be more subtle. Perhaps it’s a dream about a time when you faced a similar situation.

Messages from beyond
As you give your spirit guides more attention and they realize you’re listening, the messages will come more frequently – in different forms and with more clarity. Dreams, epiphanies, unusual thoughts, telepathy, electrical abnormalities such as lights flickering or a radio turning itself on may be ways they are communicating with you. Spirits can also communicate through animals. If you’re approached by an animal that has meaning for you, or if a butterfly alights on your shoulder or a rare bird perches on your windowsill, this may be a communication intended to encourage and reward your efforts to connect.

Write on
Start a notebook where you can jot down these occurrences. Add any insights or intuition that hits you get when you think about them. Keep a record of how you have applied what you’ve learned to your everyday life. You’ll be surprised when you look back at what you have learned! Also, if you are getting a psychic reading, ask your spirit guides to join you.
Don’t hesitate, the best guidance and the most profound wisdom is available to you through your own heart and the help of a spirit guide

Crystal Cleansing Methods

by lunabellator5

Cleansing is washing away physical impurities. This act removes unwanted energies from your stones and crystals, but not all cleansing methods should be used with all stones, for it might ruin them. For example, stones or crystals that have the tendency to crack or fade should never be cleansed in sunlight. I would suggest searching what type of stone you are trying to clean before choosing one of the methods below:

Elemental

This method uses all four elements of of Earth, Air, Fire and Water to cleanse the stone. You will need something that represents each of them: soil, burning incense, burning candle and water. Dip the stone in the water, then pass it through the fire, through the incense’s smoke and then place it in the soil. As you perform this method, imagine each element removing any unwanted energies from your stone.

Smudging

This method uses the smoke of incense or burning herbs to remove the negative energy and purify the stone. I love using white sage, but the type of incense used is entirely up to you. Simply pass the stone through the smoke or leave it anywhere it allows the smoke to drift over the stone for a long period of time.

Water

The best is to use water from a natural source, but in case you don’t have access to it, you can simply use tap water. Allow the stone to soak in water for a period of time in sunlight, moonlight or you can rinse it under running water. You can use salt water as long as your stone isn’t too soft. For example, if you are trying to cleanse an amethyst, opal or hematite, do NOT use this method.

Sunlight or Moonlight

Simply place the stone where it can receive sunlight or moonlight rays for a long period of time. As mentioned before, some stones are not meant to be cleansed in sunlight, so be careful.

Earth

Place your stone or crystals in earth, either directly or in a peace of cloth, for 24 hours. It is best if the soil is not covered with chemicals nor fertilizers. Please remember where you are going to place your crystals or stones, so you won’t lose them.

Music and Sounds

Sounds can be used for cleansing by ringing a bell or using a singing bowl. The Book of the Crystals Spells has a great chant for singing while using this method:

“As this sound reaches my ear,
I declare this stone is clear.”

Salt

Allow the stone to sit in sea salt overnight, through the day or over a 24 hours period.

Quartz Clusters or Other Stones

Allowing a stone to rest on a large cluster of clear quartz is also an extremely easy method of cleansing. Let the stone to remain on the clearing crystal for at least 24 hours.

Free of Gravity
Flying Home

by Madisyn Taylor

We take flight mentally when we rise above our habitual ways of thinking about things and experience new insights.

As earthbound beings, humans have always had a fascination with winged creatures of all kinds. The idea of being able to spontaneously lift off from the earth and fly is so compelling to us that we invented airplanes and helicopters and myriad other flying machines in order to provide ourselves with the many gifts of being airborne. Flying high in the sky, we look down on the earth that is our home and see things from an entirely different perspective. We can see more, and we can see farther than we can when we’re on the ground. As if all this weren’t enough, the out-of-this-world feeling of freedom that comes with groundlessness inspires us to want to take flight again and again.

Metaphorically, we take flight whenever we break free of the gravity that holds us to a particular way of thinking or feeling or being. We take flight mentally when we rise above our habitual ways of thinking about things and experience new insights. This is what it means to open our minds. Emotionally, we take flight when the strength of our passion exceeds the strength of our blockages; the floodgates open and we are free to feel fully. Spiritually we take flight when we locate that part of ourselves that is beyond the constraint of linear time and the world of form. It is in this place that we experience the essential boundlessness that defines the experience of flight.

Taking flight is always about freeing ourselves from form, if only temporarily. When we literally fly, in a plane or on a hang glider, we free ourselves from the strength of gravity’s pull. As we open our minds and our hearts, we free ourselves from habitual patterns of thought and emotional blockages. As we remember our true nature, we free ourselves from identification with the temporary state of our physical forms. The more we stretch our wings, the clearer it becomes that taking flight is a state of grace that simply reminds us of who we really are.
